EASTHOPE FAMILY WINEGROWERS
2021 ‘TWO TERRACES VINEYARD’, CHENIN BLANC

Hand picked, 100% whole bunch pressed, unfined.

Grown by Ian and Linda Quinn off their Two Terraces Vineyard located in Maraekakaho, Hawke’s Bay. The second vintage from this vineyard coincided with fantastic weather conditions.

Chenin Blanc in the Loire Valley of France produces some of the world’s longest-lived white wines. Beginning with focused fruit, florals and laser-like acidity it matures into richly textured and complex wine that retains its fresh acidity into old age.

This hand picked fruit was whole bunch pressed to yield delicious raw juice which was then fermented in our cast stone egg-shaped tanks.  The long fermentation and and further maturation on the spent yeast lees results in wine where the fruit and floral characters merge with savoury brioche like notes.  It’s individually delicious.

2021 was a magical vintage of sunny settled weather.  This allowed full ripeness yielding a wine with more stone fruit characters, lots of palate weight and length of flavour, yet still given tension via mineral notes and natural acid frame.
This is great with your favourite cheese, or is a killer combo with mild shellfish such as scallops or clams. But most often we enjoy this on it’s own, well chilled on a warm evening.
