Our Story
Freedom over approval — wines guided by land, family, and instinct.
Perched above the Ngaruroro River in the Mangatahi district of Hawke’s Bay, our land is the foundation for our young family to grow and is the essence of our wines.
The Foundation of Our Work
A life built from the land
Our vineyard is the foundation on which our young family grows. We’ve learned that viticulture is only one part of a much larger ecology — a landscape shared with native plants, birds, insects, and our own daily lives. By treading lightly, we allow the land to give back what it can, in its own time. In the winery, we only do that which is necessary. This results in wines uncluttered by artefact or fashion. Instead they transparently convey their site and vintage derived character.
Our Philosophy
Freedom over approval
We treasure freedom over approval. Our wines aren’t burdened by expectation or convention — they are shaped by the land, the season, and the hands that tend them. In the winery, we do only what is necessary, creating wines uncluttered by artefact or fashion. Each bottle transparently conveys its site and vintage-derived character.
Ergodynamic winemaking
Every task — from pruning and picking to pressing and bottling — is done by hand. We call this approach Ergodynamic, a style defined not by ambition, but by the physical capacity of a family to grow and make wine themselves. It’s deliberate, intimate work that results in wines of precision, texture, and quiet power.
Family and Place
Our real challenge is to create time and space to reflect and enjoy this wonderful place with our children, family, and friends. The rhythm of the vineyard is the rhythm of our lives — one of growth, rest, and renewal.
